A Message from Japanese Ambassador to the Republic of Liberia

2024/12/2
I am Hiroshi Yoshimoto, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Liberia November 25, 2024. Liberia is under the jurisdiction of the Embassy of Japan in Ghana, where I arrived on December 2, 2024.

I have been involved in policy work in the areas of education, science and technology, culture, and sports.
This is my first time to work in Africa, but I had the opportunity to interact with African government representatives through educational support projects when I was working at the Permanent Mission of Japan to UNESCO, and I have always wanted to work in Africa someday.

Liberia has a long history of independence, having gained independence in the 19th century before many other African countries.

Liberia is a country that has faced many difficulties, such as civil war and the Ebola epidemic, and has overcome many hardships. In Japan, Liberia is also widely known as a ‘Liberian-flagged ship’ country. I would like to visit Liberia as early as possible after my arrival at the Embassy of Ghana.

Japan's assistance to Liberia resumed in 2007, and has been focused on infrastructure development such as roads and electricity, as well as the formation of social infrastructure in the areas of health and education. In Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, a hospital and a road bearing the name of Japan, such as ‘the Japan-Liberia Friendship Hospital for Mothers and Children’ and ‘the Japan Freeway’, have been constructed to support the lives of Liberian citizens. As represented by these projects, Japan-Liberia relations have developed amicably.

As the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan, I will do my utmost to further promote exchange and cooperation between our two countries.

There are approximately 10 Japanese citizens living in Liberia. All of us at the Embassy are committed to ensuring that all of our Japanese residents enjoy a safe and secure life in Liberia.
Thank you for your continued support.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Liberia
