A message from Japanese Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone
2024/12/2
I am Hiroshi Yoshimoto, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Sierra Leone, effective November 25, 2024. Sierra Leone is under the jurisdiction of the Embassy of Japan in Ghana, where I arrived on December 2, 2024.
I have been involved in policy work in the areas of education, science and technology, culture, and sports.
This is my first time to work in Africa, but I had the opportunity to interact with African government representatives through education support projects when I was working at the Permanent Mission of Japan to UNESCO, and I knew that I wanted to work in Africa someday.
Sierra Leone has gone through a period of civil war and subsequent UN mission-led security measures. After a period of civil war and subsequent UN mission-led security, Sierra Leone has been promoting peace-building and democratic nation-building. Sierra Leone is also known among African countries for its commitment to global governance, including Security Council reform.
Japan has been actively engaged in assisting such a country build its foundations.
JICA has a branch office in Sierra Leone, and is engaged in a wide range of activities in various fields, such as healthcare, agriculture, and energy.
Japan and Sierra Leone have various exchanges in politics, economy, and culture. There is a Japanese company that operates a large-scale pineapple farm and contributes to the local economy and employment. As Ambassador of Japan, I am determined to do my utmost to further develop relations between Japan and Sierra Leone, which has great potential. Sierra Leone is also rich in nature, including beautiful coastal landscape. As Ambassador, I would like to visit the country as early as possible.
I understand that the number of Japanese residents in Sierra Leone is about 30. All of us at the Embassy are committed to ensuring the safety of all Japanese residents in Sierra Leone.
Thank you for your continued support.
