A message from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan
2014/12/15

Thank you for visiting the website of the Embassy of Japan in Ghana.
In September 2014, I arrived in Ghana so as to fulfill my duties as a Ambassador of Japan.
Bilateral relations between Japan and Ghana can be traced to the 1920s when Medical Dr. Hideyo Noguchi visited Ghana to conduct research on Yellow fever. Formal diplomatic relations between Japan and Ghana has existed for over 50 years, which as a result has fostered strong relations between the two countries. There are various mutual exchanges I would like to touch upon in terms of the Japan-Ghana relations. Among others, I trust commodity trade including cocoa-bean trade from Ghana to Japan, economic assistance that Japanese Government has extended to Ghana over decades in multiple areas, very grass-root activities led by Japan Oversea Cooperation Volunteers across the nation, cultural exchanges thorough Japanese national sports and martial arts such as Judo and Karate-do, as well as human exchange including the Japanese Government’s scholarship granted for Ghanaian students have always been seen at the center of the entire efforts to promote already-cordial friendship between Japan and Ghana. Furthermore, I believe our partnership has far strengthened since His Excellency President Mahama, who has very solid bond with Japan, assumed the office and in the future I assure that to be further bolstered.
My entire team of the Embassy will do our best to help strengthening friendly relations between Japan and Ghana and would appreciate your kind cooperation.
