A message from Japanese Ambassador to the Republic of Ghana
2024/12/2
I am Hiroshi Yoshimoto, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ghana, and I assumed my new position on December 2, 2024.
I have been involved in policy work in the areas of education, science and technology, culture, and sports.
Although this is my first time working in Africa, I had the opportunity to interact with African officials through education support projects when I worked at the Permanent Mission of Japan to UNESCO, and I had always wanted to work in Africa one day.
Ghana is a country that Japanese are familiar with through its chocolate. As a stable democracy in West Africa, Ghana shares universal values and is a country of great diplomatic importance to Japan. A young country with an average age of approximately 20, Ghana's population is growing and its economy is steadily advancing, and the number of Japanese companies operating in Ghana is increasing. At the same time, however, Ghana faces various problems associated with urbanization, disparities between urban and rural areas in healthcare, education, agriculture, and infrastructure, as well as unemployment and other issues that Japan has experienced in the course of its development to date.
As "partners in growth together," I intend to encourage Japan and Ghana to further develop their economic relationship and to work together to resolve social issues in Ghana, as well as to engage in exchange and cooperation in various fields, such as education, culture, and sports.
The year 2027 will mark the 100th anniversary of Dr. Hideyo Noguchi's first visit to Ghana to conduct research on yellow fever. We would like to seize this opportunity and, with the understanding and support of all concerned, work to further strengthen the friendship and goodwill between our two countries that has been nurtured over the years.
It is also an important mission of the Embassy to protect the safety and security of the Japanese people living in Ghana. All of us at the Embassy will do our utmost to achieve this goal.
Thank you for your continued support.
